Dusk

Rather a rough-cut sonnet, I think...

A violet drapery curtaining the earth
With shades of midnight peering here and there –
Such calm reflection of an evening mirth
And quietude that follows pomp and flare…
Sunset gone; the eventide asleep
And, in the embered sky, so lately bright,
The nightly court their silent vigil keep
And guard His kingdom with their gentle light.
So little movement in their twinkling guard;
Serenity encompasses the sky,
And where the midday jungle blared and jarred,
At dusk we hear the echo of a sigh.

And I, so undeserving, witness this!
So dear! the sweet celestial bond of bliss.

Beautiful!
This sonnet actually gives me in the experience of a peaceful twilight, Rose!
Of course, though, in my typical fashion, I have to question whether (see line 2) "shades" do "peer"?

I love "the embered sky, so lately bright" line!
"And guard His kingdom with their gentle light" is just beautiful.

Well done! I'm so glad you're Back in the Saddle Again! Maybe Joey can put something of yours to music?
Love, Mom

Thanks so much for your comment, Mom!

Well, if you had seen the sky last night, actually, you would understand line 2... the whole sky was a dark purple, almost a blood-purple, but there were splotches of a dark blue here and there. I took it to be the shades of midnight peering through the violet curtain of dusk. Does that make sense? :)

Thanks again for the feedback. I'm glad you liked it! :) :)

There are some really vivid word images (is that what they're called?) in this piece!! Well done.
