Why Is the Moon So Lonely

Why is the moon so lonely,
Deep in that starlit sky?
Why is her face so sad?
She makes me want to cry!

She has so many neighbors
To share her light above,
What is she weeping after?
What is she thinking of?

Oh, sweet lady, crying
In that midnight dome,
Dry your tears and smile!
You have such a home!

Twinkling, shining mirrors
Glisten all around;
Oh! a sweeter mansion
Scarcely could be found!

Smile, and cease your weeping;
Life is bright tonight!
We are here to share
Your mild and lovely light.
